May 18-21
This is your last week of school work if you're all caught up and what I want you to do is share some of your favorite moments and memories from this school year. There's no length limit to this; I just want you to have some fun thinking about what you loved about the year and share those moments. Typically, I like to do some reminiscing in the last week, where we all share some funny and great moments from the school year. I enjoy being reminded of moments that made us laugh, moments where we accomplished something great, or moments where we learned something cool.
Some of my favorite moments were: playing zombie tag at recess (Logan D. is still the creepiest zombie and I've never seen a zombie smile as much as Emma). Watching you film your ad commercials. It was hilarious watching Logan W. mumble his way through trying to sell us "Constipation Annihilation" and Roarke falling down the hill. (I still can't believe the girls got me into those yoga pants...) Drinking hot cocoa and opening presents sitting around the tree, and telling you guys that Jerica and I are having a baby boy. I remember getting to give you huge high fives when you met your MAPS goals in the winter and celebrating all the incredible growth you've all made!
You were an incredible class and I'm really grateful for all the hard work you guys put in this year! I want to give an extra shout-out to my 6th grade class. You were a really special group and I'm a lucky guy to get to teach you for two years! I'm proud to send you to the world of junior high. You're ready, and like a proud papa bear I release you to become big teenagers. I'm sorry I don't get to give you a better send off to the end of the year, but I'll still get to see most of you next door next year! Speaking of next year; 5th graders, I can't wait to get you guys back next year! I'm extremely proud of the growth you all made this year, and I'm excited to have each of you for another year.
I'm starting to get all sentimental so I'm going to sign off before I make myself sad. Thanks again for being such great people! I can't wait to see you all again in the Fall!

As Idaho and the country is slowly re-opening after the Covid crisis, I'm curious as to the one thing you're looking forward to doing most. It could be shopping at a specific store, eating at a restaurant, traveling, or simply spending time with people that don't live in your house. I want to know: what it is that you're looking forward to doing most, and why you're looking forward to it.

Well May 4 is May the Fourth Be With You Day. For those of you that are uninitiated, that means it's National Star Wars Day and OF COURSE we have to do something to celebrate that! So here's your writing prompt:
Story Starter: You are given the chance to train as a Jedi with Yoda for the day. Where do you go? What happens and what happens? Write a story about what happened that day.
Not all of you have seen the movies but you've seen the awesome (and totally not creepy no matter what Hali says) Yoda in the classroom. You have a lightsaber (laser sword) and can move things with your mind, what do you do for the day? Have fun with it! I can't wait about your space adventures!
April 27-30
Write 3 paragraphs describing your favorite pet. What kind of animal is it? When/how did you get it? Why is it your favorite pet? Tell me 1 or 2 or your favorite memories you have of your pet. It could be an animal that you currently have, 1 you used to have, or if you don't have a favorite pet, tell me what kind of pet you'd like to have and why it would make a perfect pet.

April 20-24
Write me a paragraph update on how your new skill is coming. Tell me what you've done and learned, what obstacles are your facing, or what challenges are you finding. Is it as fun or rewarding as you thought it would be? Would you like to continue learning this skill or is there a new skill you'd like to learn? Please also send me progress pictures of something related to your goal.
April 13-16
Mrs. Parker is looking for pictures about what life has been like for students during the quarantine. She's is looking for: pictures of students doing work at home, pictures of skills, projects, or housework being done, pictures of students spending time with their family, etc. Your assignment this week is to email me pictures of your life at home during the quarantine with a small explanation of what is happening in each picture. I also want at least one paragraph on how you feel about the quarantine and distance learning.
April 6-9
Write an informative essay. The prompt is: What is something you've always wanted to learn or learn how to do? How can you use the extra time provided by the school's closure to learn that skill?
For example: I've always wanted to learn carpentry, so I'm trying some building projects around my house. Tell me what you've wanted to learn or learn how to do and then how you're going to do it. Feel free to share pictures or videos of you doing or learning your new skill! I'll post pictures of what I've built as well to show you that I'm staying accountable in this project too!
The essay should be 5 paragraphs or more.
Paragraph 1: introduction- tell me what you want to learn
Paragraph 2: tell me why you want to learn this
Paragraph 3: tell me (in detail) how you plan to learn this. Are you going to watch youtube videos, take an online course, download an app, etc?
Paragraph 4: create goals and deadlines for yourself. Tell me what you want to know or be able to do and by when.
Paragraph 5: summarize your goal and what progress you've made so far
I'd like to do some show and tell on this when we get back! We can all share pictures and talk about what new things we've learned or skills we've acquired while we were away!
Here's a link to some ideas to get you started if you can't think of something.
March 30-April 2
